Armadillo Ball!

For this project, I really wanted to build something out of a set of components. While I was trying to think of animals that have segmented bodies or repeated patterns, I came across the three-banded armadillo. This is the one that can roll itself into a ball.

I really want to make this ball hinged so that it can flatten out. I'm thinking that the easiest way to do this is to actually make a stuffed armadillo and attach it to the outer shell. I could also make a mechanical hinge, but that would be much more complicated and prone to problems. (Plus it wouldn't be as cute!)
