For my final, I am thinking about making a rococo style sitting area. There will be all different desserts either hanging or sitting on a table. The cakes will be made out of jellied cranberry sauce and covered in white plaster. All the furniture will be white as well. In the corner I'd like to have my string quartet come in and play. We are currently working on a Mozart String quartet. It is a light, humorous piece. As the quartet is playing, the cakes will explode. The quartet will just continue to play as if nothing is out of place. The cranberry sauce will splatter and spray all over the musicians (might have to put up plexi glass because they probably won't want their instruments to get dirty). This piece is about humor and absurdity. The music continues even though the cakes are exploding and carnage like debris is spraying. It reminded me of the phrase Marie Antoinette was thought to have said "Let them eat cake" in response to the starving poor. It references situations where we turn a blind eye when things are deteriorating around us.
Here is the piece my quartet is working on. (it is just the first movement)
I am not sure how I am going to get the cakes to explode. I might have to hang them and then drop them from the ceiling instead to get the same splattering effect.
